Having been to Disney a number of times, I generally know what to expect when I go on a particular ride or walk into a specific restaurant. But one of the things I appreciate about a trip to WDW is the potential for unexpected little bonuses of fun. For example, as my family and I walked passed the Canadian pavilion in Epcot, we paused to listen to a rock band which featured a guy in a kilt jamming hard on a set of bagpipes. It wasn't something we'd planned to see, but it was cool to take a moment and listen to a couple of songs. Nowhere in our guidebook did it suggest we grab a few Canadian beers and listen to some kilt rock. It just happened.
What are some cool, little surprise moments you've had at WDW?

The best surprise had nothing to do with Disney, although it happened at the Magic Kingdom. We were standing in line at Mr. Toad's Wild Ride (remember that one?) and I turned around to come face to face with my our babysitter from across the street. Mind you we live in Wisconsin, so it was a jaw dropper. She was visiting her Florida Grandmother with her younger cousins and they just happened to pick the same day we did to visit the Magic Kingdom. It's a small world after all.....
ReplyDeleteDid you make her babysit the kids that night so you could go out for margaritas? Ha.
ReplyDeleteI used to like Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. What did they replace it with? I forget.
Getting a pass to stay in the Magic Kingdom for two hours after the park officially closed. They gave out about 200 of these (we were given ours while in line for Buzz Lightyear ride, just in the right place at the right time) and Disney threw a dance party for the passholders over by Space Mountain while they cleared out the rest of the park. When the party was over, we got to walk onto any ride we wanted. Great fun.
ReplyDeleteDamn it, Jeff! No fair. I want a pass like that!
ReplyDeleteVictor, Mr Toad's Wild Ride at WDW was replaced by The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.
ReplyDeleteBack when I was a kid in the 70's, one of the Three Caballeros characters goosed my mom in Poineer Land. I guess that's sort of, "Disney for Mom" unexpected little bonuses of fun.
ReplyDeleteAnd, by the way, I really miss Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, damn it!
